OOOOups.......

This is the picture of the leak from BP on June 22nd, 2010.

Though it has been said that the situation has been contained, and the media has since then shifted its gears on other crisis in the world: such as malaria; the controversy with the nobel prize winner this year,  Liu Xiaobo; or Aung San Suu Kyi from the Burmanese Opposition party.....

Now, the oil spill has been left out from the public eyes, but there are still a lot left to be done.

The amount of oil to be cleared out still requires much attention in order to alleviate the impacts it has been done to the local habitants and fauna. After capping the wellhead, it has been estimated 185 million gallons of crude oil was emited, which is the approximately 53,000 barrels per day.

As the inhabitants suffered from the fishing and tourism industry, the marine and the wildlifes have suffered even greater impacts. It affects dolphins, manatees, young herons, sea turtles, least terns, snowy plover, pelicans, crabs and whooping cranes.

Many mammals, and aqualifestyle animals will suffer severe consequences: as dolphins will get damaged from inhaling oil, which will affect their lungs amd mucus membranes; The manatees will get their eyesight affected; the endangered seaturtles that eat seagrass in order to keep the seagrass short and healthy might lose their reproduction level; and the least terns, which only has 2,000 living in Biloxi Missisipi might go extinct.

This spill has impact the whole animal reproductivity and wildlife, and more should be done concerning this situation, instead of turning a blind eye to its aftermath.

Fridge Without Using Electricity!
by Chris Gupta

This is incredible idea is an extension of the pottery water cooling vessels used though the millennia.

This is Mohammed Bah Abba's Pot-in-pot invention. In northern Nigeria, where Mohammed is from, over 90% of the villages have no electricity. His invention, which he won a Rolex Award for (and $100,000), is a refrigerator than runs without electricity.

Here's how it works. You take a smaller pot and put it inside a larger pot. Fill the space in between them with wet sand, and cover the top with a wet cloth. When the water evaporates, it pulls the heat out with it, making the inside cold. It's a natural, cheap, easy-to-make refrigerator.

So, instead of perishable foods rotting after only three days, they can last up to three weeks. Obviously, this has the potential to change their lives. And it already has -- there are more girls attending school, for example, as their families no longer need them to sell food in the market.

Arnold Williams from hathaby.net commented on this in his weblog. He said:

" Brilliant ideas don't need to be difficult to execute: here's a case in point. The technology has been known for centuries, but WASN'T APPLIED TO THE PROBLEM. Notice that applying technology also has the effect of educating young people. "

--> I had to put this information in! i just think it is really useful for people living in rural villages!!

I am blah.......

So, i started to reconnect with my Stumble Upon acct, and today i stumbled upon a cup of latte.
Being a super Latte fan, i click on it....Just to find out that consuming my latte is "kinda Wrong"....
Well, that won't change my everyday latte request.... who can miss a java mix if you had a bad day?

I mean, though i believe the importance of water, sometimes i am thinking how can we change the way we process? I mean, if you arent the head of a corporation, if you arent part of mgmt, how can you change the procedures of the supply chaine? Is there a more innovative manner to approach sustainability?
Should there be more innovation in governance in order to perserve the future generation, instead of generating massive wasteful supply and demand.......

pricing of water based on country

If you live in a slum in Manila, you pay more for your water than people living in London.” That is the conclusion of a report from the United Nations Human Development Programme.

Much of the world lives without access to clean water.Privatization of water resources, promoted as a means to bring business efficiency into water service management, has instead led to reduced access for the poor around the world as prices for these essential services have risen...
